Web Design and Development Questions

• Why should I hire someone to design my website when I can make one for free with Yahoo?
• It’s true that there are plenty of places where you can make a website and get it hosted for free. However, as a professional, it’s important to create an image that reflects your professionalism and values. If your area of expertise is in something other than the design and development of websites, then you’re probably better off hiring a web designer than risking your image by putting something in the public eye that is anything less than professional.
• How do I get a domain name?
• I can provide that service for my clients using 1and1, which I also recommend for web hosting. Their services are very reasonably priced and allow your website to grow along with your business.
• How long will it take to get my website online?
• The time it takes to have a website ready to go live, is determined, mainly, by two factors.
• The complexity of the site and the design requirements will determine the amount of time it takes me to create the initial design.
• The time it takes the client to provide the site’s written content and images will help to determine when the site can be published. The sooner you get your content to me, the better.
• I want to have a page with news and special events. Can I handle that myself.
• Most likely you can. If you are even just a little bit web savvy, I can set up your site using WordPress, and you can manage your own news page with the user-friendly WordPress administration interface.
• But isn’t WordPress just for blogs?
• Not anymore. WordPress functions beautfully as a content management system, and many well-respected designers use it for clients and for their own personal sites.

• Why did you name your dog Stieglitz?
• He’s named after Alfred Stieglitz, the photographer who helped introduce the United States to modern art. When I first got my furry little dog he reminded me of the hirsute photographer.
• Are you the Lisa Goodlin who brought suit against Medtronic?
• Thankfully, no. Also, I’m not the one who runs the South Florida parenting magazine.
