Design Notes

Pretty Pleased

July 23rd, 2008

I’m pretty pleased with what I have done so far. There are a number of problems I still have to solve, but I feel I have accomplished something significant (in a relative sort of way) in designing my first WordPress theme and getting it online in a not-embarrassing form.

Earlier today . . .

Update

There is now content on the Portfolio page, and content (well, literally, it is content) on the FAQ page. Still no download-able Website Planning Questionnaire, though

I should have put these posts on the blog to begin with, but I was, uh, busy and didn’t have the site organization straight in my head.

What’s Happening Right Now

The site is now live, as you can see. I decided to put the site online and blog about the process. It’s my first WordPress-run site, and it’s been, and continues to be, an adventure.

I’m whipping this baby into shape, but like so many things in life, it’s taking me longer than I thought it would. I’m still missing content on the Portfolio and FAQ pages. And my Website Planning Questionnaire, mentioned below, won’t download.

And I don’t even know what to say about the odd formatting. I just can’t quite figure out how to style the h2s etc. and links. Hm.

Better and better

July 21st, 2008

I just love my work. This site is getting better and better. I’m pleased with the overall feel even if I still haven’t figured out how to style a number of the elements. There is actually content on the Portfolio page now, and it doesn’t look half bad, if I do say so myself. I don’t have a lot of websites to showcase, but I am proud of what I do have, and in time there’s sure to be many more.

Getting better

Still not there, but at least it’s not the god-awful mess that it was this morning.

Yikes!

Well, this looks pretty amazing. Amazing in a really bad way. I’ll figure it out. Soon, I hope.

Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

Oy. I really got ahead of myself. I was trying to do the layout of the home page without having really thought through the content. So I’m figuring out where the boxes go and how to align them Just Right, the usual frustration and jubilation. Then I realize nothing looks right because the content is not there at all. It’s not exactly all lorem ipsum, but I’m making it up as I go along.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I’m going to wipe out most of the code and sit down with my sketch book and think it through.

One positive note is that I still like the header and the stripes.
